We have put together information on what you can expect when visiting our clinic and if you have been booked for surgery.

If you still have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly staff.

Pre-Operative Consultation

During your consultation Dr Anderson will discuss your diagnosis, risks, complications, limitations of surgery and the degree of success or likelihood of failure of surgery.

You will be asked to sign a surgery consent form, which is published by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons outlining that you understand the risks of your procedure.

Surgery booking policy

NQENT staff will prepare a surgery estimate of the proposed surgery that is provided by Dr Anderson. This will include any item numbers to be billed to Medicare and or your private health fund. Please be advised that there will be other costs involved and this does not include the anaesthetist, radiologist, nuclear physicians and pathologists, nor other costs associated with your stay in the hospital, e.g. accommodation, pharmacy and physiotherapy.

Your quotation and surgery information pack will be emailed to the address you have provided at your consultation, please ensure this is correct.

If you have private health insurance, we require all item numbers to be checked that you are covered for surgery in a ‘private hospital’. If you are not covered, you may be required to pay the full amount. Please ensure you advise our friendly staff as soon as possible as this will change your surgery quotation.

Fees for Hospital & Anaesthetist

NQENT will organise your anaesthetist and hospital stay for you. We will include your anaesthetist and Mater Hospital contact details and you will need to contact them to obtain their costings. Northern Anaesthesia & Perioperative Support Services will contact you regarding their costings. This may be approximately 14 days prior surgery.

NQENT will provide you with surgery booking information and this will include a checklist for you to refer to.

Out of town patients

There are a range of accommodation options available to patients who do not reside in Townsville or may not have relatives or friends to stay with.

For patients who have been allocated to have surgery may be required to stay in Townsville for a period of time, due to post-operative pre-cautions and this can be up to two weeks. This will be advised by Dr Anderson at the time of your consultation. This includes no day trips outside of Townsville including Magnetic Island, Ingham, Ayr or Charters Towers.

Fasting Instructions

Unless otherwise specified by Dr Anderson, you cannot have any blood thinning medications for two weeks before surgery including but not exclusive to: Aspirin, Nurofen, Disprin, multivitamins, herbal medications, probiotics, fish oils or vitamin C. Please check with us if you take any medications, vitamins and/or supplements. Panadol is acceptable to take if required. Failure to cease any of these may result in your surgery being rescheduled.

NQENT staff will contact you 1-2 business days prior to your surgery date to advise Fasting & Admission Times.
